Epitomising the upwardly-mobile ‘80s, the E30 generation BMW 3 Series was hugely popular and was in production from 1982 to 1994. Available in a wide range of body styles – 2 and 4-door saloons, Touring estate and convertible – together with a large number of powerplant options, nearly 2½ million examples were built.
The model we have here dates from 1992 and provides smooth, open-top driving from its automatic transmission and part-electric folding hood. With its stylish, slightly understated looks, it is a great car in which to travel around the island. The BMW offers a perfect reminder of what driving was like before everything was electronically assisted or controlled.
